‘A proper diet and workout, key to a healthy body’

Malaika Arora, known for the emphasis she gives to fitness, talks about the importance of using the right gear

QTell us about your fitness mantra

I start my day with yoga, followed by meditation. Then I go for a walk, and do some mindful eating on my return. I also prefer to have dinner before sunset. I look forward to each day with positive energy and enthusiasm, which keeps me mentally healthy too.

As new-age forward-thinking women focus on health and well-being, attention is paid to diets and workouts. How essential is good footwear for workout and walks?

A proper diet and consistent­ly working out are among the factors that are the key to having a healthy body. But choosing the right gear is equally important, as it gives you the confidence to push yourself more and keeps you going for longer. I recommend that people use Reebok’s new Ever Road DMX if they choose to take up walking as a fitness exercise.

Q How important is footwear for posture correction and preventing injury?

Choosing the right footwear is the most important part of beginning any fitness activity. It maintains the balance of your body, increases your productivi­ty and improves your performanc­e while preventing any major injury.

With new diets emerging every day, how do you manage to educate yourself and those around you? What kind of fitness research do you undertake?

I keep making changes in my diet to see what really suits my body and provides the maximum benefits. Everybody is different and reacts differentl­y to the intake of food. I recommend that people choose a healthy diet for themselves; and if they want to attain a particular body type, they should consult a nutritioni­st.
