4,500 cartridges seized in Delhi, 6 men arrested

INVESTIGAT­IONS REVEALED that Ramesh had been working at Ambala gun house and earned `10,000 per month but owing his low income, he lured Amit (owner of Ambala Gun House) to sell cartridges illegally in the grey market so that they could earn a quick buck

The special cell of the Delhi police has arrested six men and recovered 4,500 live cartridges, the largest haul this year, from their possession in North Delhi.

The police said that it has also seized two cars in which the accused used to transport cartridges for supply to criminals. It said that the first arrest of the syndicate member was made from the Burari area of the city on February 14.

The accused has been identified as Ramesh Kumar (46), a resident of Karnal in Haryana; Deepanshu Mishra (35), a resident of Etawah in Uttar Pradesh (UP); Amit Rao (33), a resident of Rewari in Haryana; Ikram (40), a resident of Panipat in Haryana; Akram (42), a resident of Muzaffarna­gar in UP; and Manoj Kumar Chauhan (39), a resident of Saharanpur in UP.

According to DCP (Special Cell) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, after receiving specific inputs on February 14, a police team laid a trap near Mukundpur flyover when at about 3.10 pm Ramesh Kumar arrived in his car. After a few minutes, Deepanshu Mishra also came to the spot in his car.

“The police caught them after a brief chase and 4,000 illegal cartridges were recovered from the duo in their cars. On the instance of the accused, the main source of supply of this syndicate, Amit Rao, was also nabbed from Jaipur on February 16,” said the DCP.

“Ikram was also nabbed by a police team from Panipat area while Akram was apprehende­d from Shamli Road in Karnal and 500 cartridges were recovered from his possession,” said the deputy commission­er of police, adding that Chauhan was arrested from Panchkula.

“During interrogat­ion they disclosed that they are part of an illegal cartridges supply syndicate. They further disclosed that they used to receive supply of cartridges from Ramesh Kumar illegally and supplied the same to various persons, including criminals of Haryana and UP,” said the deputy commission­er of police.
