The Economic Offences Wing of the Delhi police has arrested a 41-year-old man who had allegedly duped several people by inducing them in his ponzy scheme to the tune of `8 crore.

The accused has been identified as Gopal Dalapati, who was arrested by the EOW police team outside gate no. 2 of Saket Court Complex on February 18.

According to joint commissioner of police (Economic Offences Wing) Dr O.P. Mishra, an FIR was registered on the complaint of Gopal Singh and other complainants in which they have alleged that they have been induced by the a l l e g e d companies, Weird Infrastructure Corporation Ltd and Weird Industries Limited, through their director and representatives to invest in their small savings schemes for better return.

“It has been alleged that the accused persons cheated the small investors in the name of doubling and tripling the invested amount upon maturity,” said the Joint CP.

“The accused persons also issued debenture certificates and collected huge amounts of about `8 crore,” he added

“During investigation, it was revealed that the accused along with his associates launched various schemes for high returns,”joint commissioner of police said.

“The accused person and his associates operated their illegal business from Kolkata and Delhi by opening their offices. After collecting around `8 crore from the victims, the alleged companies closed their offices in Kolkata and Delhi and disappeared,” said the joint commissioner of police added.

“Earlier, three accused—Amarendra Prasad Singh, Bharat Kumar Rai, and chairman cum managing director Sanjay Kumar Das—had been arrested by the police,” said the joint commissioner of police.

Kolkata, Feb. 20: BJP’s youth-wing leader Pamela Goswami, arrested in a drugs case, on Saturday demanded the arrest of party colleague Rakesh Singh, accusing him of conspiracy, and sought a CID probe into the matter.

Ms Goswami, the state secretary of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), was arrested along with a friend, Pradip Kumar Dey, and her personal security guard from south Kolkata’s New Alipore area on Friday after around 90 gm of cocaine worth lakhs of rupees was allegedly found from her handbag and car, according to police.

“I want a CID investigation. BJP’s Rakesh Singh, the aide of Kailash Vijayvargiya, should be arrested. This is his conspiracy,” Ms Goswami told reporters while being taken to lock-up from a city court.

Mr Singh, a BJP state committee member, alleged that the ruling Trinamul Congress and the Kolkata police were conspiring against him and have “brainwashed” Ms Goswami.

He said that he has not been in touch with Ms Goswami for more than a year and was ready to face any investigation.

“If I am involved, they can call me or Kailash Vijayvargiya or Amit Shah. I think the police have brainwashed her. I am not in touch with Pamela for more than one-and-a half-years now,” Mr Singh told PTI.

“This can be that the police is following the Trinamul Congress’ instructions. They are conspiring against me. These are baseless accusations and I am ready to face any challenge," he added.
