New Delhi: Two brothers were arrested for allegedly killing a person who used to assault one of them in North Delhi’s Sadar Bazar area, the police said on Saturday. The accused have been identified as Ram (34) and Kamal (40), residents of Basti Julahan in Sadar Bazar, it said. According to the police, complainant Suresh Kumar reported that on Friday, at around 9.30 pm, he was in his house when he heard noise from the street. He reached Sarla Chowk in Basti Julahan where he saw Ram quarrelling with his brotherin-law Jai Kishan alias Jacky (34), the police said. During the quarrel, Ram went to his house and immediately returned with a knife along with his elder brother Kamal. Kamal caught Jacky and Ram stabbed him in the stomach. Meanwhile, one local resident, Saurav, tried to save Jacky but Ram also assaulted him with the knife, a senior police officer said.

The security was tightened at senior Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan’s Mumbai residence on Saturday in the wake of Maharashtra Congress chief threatening to stop his film shoots. Meanwhile, Mr Patole on Saturday changed his stand and said that his party will not stop film shootings, but show black flags to Mr Bachchan and Akshay Kumar wherever they are spotted. Mr Patole said, “I did not comment on Amitabh Bachchan and Akshay Kumar. But I commented on their deeds. There are not real heroes.” He also said if they were real heroes, they would have been talking about the people’s hardships. “If they want to continue being ‘kagaz ke sher’, then the Congress doesn’t have any problem,” he said. Two days ago, Mr. Patole said if actors Amitabh Bachchan and Akshay Kumar do not take a stand on the issue of fuel price hike, then screening of their films and shootings would not be allowed in the state. Confirming the development of security deployment, a senior IPS officer of the Mumbai police, requesting anonymity, said, “The police personnel have been deployed at Amitabh Bachchan’s residence as precautionary measures.”

The half-day bandh call given by Congress in protest against fuel price increase on Saturday evoked mixed response in Madhya Pradesh. While petrol stations remained closed, normal life however remained unaffected in most places in the state. Congress workers and leaders who were enforcing bandh in their respective areas in the state were seen facing resistances from the local businessmen at some places. One Krishna Pachouri, a local businessman here, lodged a complaint in Korada police station in Bhopal alleging misbehavior by Congress men while trying to intimidate him to close his shop. Similarly, a cloth merchant in Jabalpur Yogesh Bhatia lodged a complaint against some Congress workers in Ranji police station in Jabalpur alleging intimidation by them to force him to close his shop. In Bhopal, police took around 100 Congress workers including former minister P C Sharma into custody while enforcing bandh at a petrol station. Barring stray incidents of scuffles and heated exchanges between the Congress workers and local businessmen at some places, the bandh passed off peacefully in the state. Congress veteran and former chief minister Kamal Nath has claimed that the bandh was “total” in the state. However, the ruling BJP called it a flop.
