Siwan strongman Shahabuddi­n dies

Former RJD MP Mohammad Shahabuddi­n passed away at a hospital in New Delhi on Saturday due to complicati­ons from Covid-19.

He was admitted to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital in Delhi for treatment after he tested positive on April 20. The gangster turned politician was lodged in Tihar jail where he was serving a life sentence in a 2004 double murder case.

Chief minister Nitish Kumar along with others expressed condolence­s over the death of former RJD MP.

RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav also expressed his condolence­s in a tweet and said that “Shahabuddi­n’s untimely demise due to corona infection is painful. His death is an irreparabl­e loss for the party”.

Mohammad Shahabuddi­n considered close to RJD chief Lalu Yadav was elected to Lok Sabha four times between 1996 and 2004. He was also an MLA for two terms between 1990 and 1995.

He was accused in over three dozen criminal cases including murder and kidnapping.

New Delhi: A 35-year-old doctor at a private hospital in south Delhi allegedly hanged himself inside his residence at Malviya Nagar, police said on Saturday. According to police, Malviya Nagar police station received informatio­n on Friday at 11.16 pm where it was mentioned that the husband of the caller’s friend was not opening the door. “Police reached at the given address on the second floor of a building in Malviya Nagar and found that a person was hanging from a ceiling fan with a saree,” Deputy Commission­er of Police (south) Atul Kumar Thakur said. The deceased has been identified as Vivek Rai. He used to work as a doctor in Max Hospital, Saket and was living at Malviya Nagar with his wife, police said. The body was shifted to AIIMS mortuary and postmortem of the deceased was got conducted. After the autopsy, the body was handed over to his cousin, the DCP said. Police searched the room and a suicide notice was found wherein no allegation was made against anybody by the deceased. The suicide note addressed to his family and friends in which the deceased has wished well for all his known persons, police said. Inquest proceeding under section 174 CrPC is being done, police added.
