The new Left Democratic Front (LDF) government in Kerala under chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan will be sworn in after a fortnight, after May 17.

CPM acting state secretary and LDF convenor A. Vijayaraghavan told mediapersons that meetings of CPM state committee, state secretariat, meetings of LDF constituents and bilateral meetings between front partners will take place over the next two weeks to finalise the ministerial berths for the allies besides the nominees for ministerships and allocated portfolios.

Vijayaraghavan said that the LDF leadership meeting would be held on May 17, which will take a final decision on government formation. After the meeting, Pinarayi Vijayan and front leaders are likely to call on governor to stake claim for government formation.

Meanwhile, the CPM state secretariat on Tuesday decided to celebrate May 7 as Victory Day marking the stupendous win of the LDF in the Assembly elections. Due to the prevailing Covid situation, the celebrations would be low key and confined to the homes of LDF workers and supporters. They will light lamps and diyas to mark the occasion. There will be no public celebration or meetings.

After the elections, all political parties had set an example by not celebrating the victory in public places in view of the spike in Covid cases.

Preliminary discussions have begun in CPM, CPI and other allies, regarding the government formation and the nominees for ministerial berths.
