Shivraj initiates move to tackle third wave of coronavirus
Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, on Saturday, initiated a move to tackle the third wave of the coronavirus pandemic, which is feared to hit the country within 4-5 months.
Mr Chouhan ordered that an expert committee be constituted to suggest measures to gear up the state to combat a possible third wave by improving the health infrastructure in the state besides removing the shortcomings faced by the state during the first and second wave of the pandemic, sources said.
Meanwhile, the number of active coronavirus cases in Madhya Pradesh, on Saturday, crossed the 1 lakh mark for the first time since the pandemic hit the state in February, 2020.
The number of active cases in the state has reached 1,02,486.
Mr Chouhan held a video conference with the district collectors to review the pandemic situation in their areas. He directed them to enforce the lockdown in their areas strictly to break the chain of the virus.
In another development, the state, for the first time during the second wave of the pandemic that hit the state two months ago, witnessed a declining trend in the positive rate.
Madhya Pradesh, on Saturday, reported 11,598 fresh cases taking the tally to 6,60,712. The state has recorded 90 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 6,334.
