Defence Covid-19 setups to stay till pandemic abates
Learning from the experience of the second wave of Corona pandemic that has wreaked havoc across the country, the Union home ministry has, in an important move, has decided that all health facilities being set up by paramilitary and defence forces will remain in place permanently till Corona pandemic subsides completely in the next few years.
Some of these health facilities, which were set up by defence forces, like in Delhi, were dismantled after Covid cases dropped considerably a few months ago and it was largely believed that the situation was under control.
However, learning from the unprecedented second wave of the deadly virus it has been decided that even after things become normal these health facilities will remain in place to deal with the “anticipated third wave or any other unforeseen danger of the coronavirus.”
Senior home ministry officials claimed that they were not willing to take any chances this time and that the devastation caused by the Covid’s second wave has been a “huge eye-opener” for the government.
The health facilities, including jumbo corona hospitals, will be removed only after there is confirmed scientific data to prove that corona has subsided completely in the country. If nothing else these health facilities can be used as vaccination centres in future.
All para-military and defence forces, including the Army, have been directed to set up at least two major health facilities or hospitals in two major cities of every state. While one such dedicated Covid hospital would be in the capital of the states, the second one would come in the “worst-affected area where the positivity rate is the highest in that particular states.”
