Cab driver, friends arrested for killing Kenyan man

A 33-year-old cab driver and his two friends were arrested on Tuesday for allegedly beating to death a Kenyan national following an altercatio­n over a taxi fare of `600, police said.

After killing the 51year-old passenger, who was later identified as Jama Said Farah, a citizen of Kenya, the cab driver Virender Singh and his friends Gopal (34) and Dilbagh (35), threw his body near a hotel, located near Indira Gandhi Internatio­nal Airport (IGI) here, they said.

The incident took place on Monday, the same day, the victim had booked a ticket from Delhi to Somalia, police said, adding, he could not fly because he was denied immigratio­n clearance at IGI Airport, they said.

His body was recovered from a footpath near a hotel on Monday and also found his mobile phone from the spot, they said, adding his luggage was found to be missing. On contacting the last dialled number from his mobile, police got in touch with Manoj Sahu, a travel agent who on interrogat­ion, told police that the victim had booked a ticket through him fot Monday for Delhi to Somalia.

During the course of investgati­on, the taxi driver was identified with the help of the vehicle number provided by the victim’s daughter, which was found to be registered in the name of Virender Singh, who is a resident of Rangpuri village, police said.

A raid was conducted and accused Singh was arrested from his house, he said. Thereafter, on Singh’s instance, his other two accomplice­s were also arrested from their residence in Rangpuri, he said.
