Man sings Juhi Chawla’s songs, interrupts court hearing on 5G plea

- SANJAY KAW

Three hit songs of actor Juhi Chawla’s movies made their way in the proceedings before the Delhi High Court on Wednesday when a man started singing them during the virtual hearing relating to the Bollywood star’s petition against the 5G wireless network.

As soon as the actor herself joined the virtual proceedings from South Africa, someone started humming ‘Ghoonghat ki aad se Dilbar ka,’ a popular song of the actor’s 1993 movie ‘Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke.’

As the “courtroom” singer was not identified, Justice J R Midha said, “Please mute”, while lawyer Deepak Khosla, appearing for the actor, said, “I hope this is not being dropped by some respondent.”

The court was hearing the issue of court fees to be submitted by the plaintiff, while it was interrupted again by someone singing another Bollywood song. In the second instance, the man started singing ‘Lal Lal Honthon Pe’ from Juhi’s 1995 film, ‘Naajayaz.’ Thereafter, he left the virtual hearing and rejoined a third time to sing ‘Meri Banno Ki Aayegi Baraat’ from the actor’s 1993 release, ‘Aaina’.

At the outset, the man was heard saying “where is Juhi Ma’am I can’t see her”. When the judge asked the court master to mute the concerned person, he said “you want to mute me. Oh really!” Initially, he had joined the hearing with the name of Azaan. Thereafter, he changed the name to Manisha Koirala and then to Janvi.

The bizarre act resulted in the periodic interruption of the hearing. It resumed after the man was removed from the session. The court has taken the matter seriously and issued a contempt notice. The court also directed the Police to search for the person and take legal action against him.

The actor had posted about the virtual hearing on social media. She had written, “Hum...tum aur 5G! If you do think this concerns you in anyway, feel free to join our first virtual hearing conducted at Delhi High Court, to be held on 2nd June, 10.45 AM onwards Link in my bio (sic).”

On Monday, the actor approached the court against the setting up of the 5G wireless networks in the country, as it would impact citizens, animals, flora and fauna. Her suit said if the 5G network plan comes into effect, no person, animal, bird, insect and plant on earth will be able to avoid exposure, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, to levels of RF radiation that are 10x to 100x times greater than what exists today.
