Following the Centre’s decision to cancel Class 12 CBSE board exams in view of the Covid-19 pandemic, several states, including Gujarat, MP and Uttarakhand, called off their board exams on Wednesday while few others said they will take a call soon.

Maharashtra, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and UP are among the states which said they are soon going to announce a final decision in this regard.

Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan took to Twitter to announce his government’s decision not to hold this year’s Class 12 board exam in the state.

“The Class 12 board examinations (conducted by MP Board of Secondary Education) for the year 202021 have been cancelled. The life of students is precious for us. We can take care of their career later,” he said.

Mr Chouhan said the option to take the examination would be available to the students after the pandemic.

The Chhattisgarh government, however, on Tuesday set in the process of holding the “exam from home” for the Class 12 board examinations in the state.

The students have been asked to collect their question papers and blank answers from the designated centres “in person” from June 1 to June 5 and submit their answer papers within five days of receiving the question and blank answer papers.

If any student has contracted Covid, then the kin of the student can collect the question and blank answer papers from the Centre on his or her behalf by producing necessary documents to prove their identity.

The answer papers written by the students needed to be submitted “in person” at the designated Centres from June 6 to June 10, failing which the particular student would be declared absentee in the examination, a spokesman of the Chhattisgarh government said.
