Didi’s nephew meets son of Mukul, raises eyebrows

- RAJIB CHOWDHURI

West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee on Wednesday evening met senior BJP leader Mukul Roy’s son Shubhrangshu and enquired about his ailing mother Krishna, who has been admitted at Apollo Gleneagles Hospital in Kolkata after getting infected with Covid-19.

Mukul, BJP’s national vice-president who is staying at home following his recovery from the infection, was not present when the Trinamul Congress MP from Diamond Harbour visited at the hospital.

Mr Banerjee’s calculated move, which the TMC insiders termed a “courtesy

visit”, has however raised eyebrows about Mukul’s son within the BJP. Not wasting time, state BJP president Dilip Ghosh also visited the hospital and met Shubhrangshu.

It can be recalled that a couple of days back when the political slugfest was on between the ruling TMC and BJP, Subhrangshu took to social media and without naming any party showed his support towards the ruling Trinamul Congress, appealing not to criticise a ‘government’ which has come to power with people’s verdict.

Only four days ago, the former Bijpur MLA of two times posted on Facebook, “Self-introspection is necessary before criticising a government that has come to power with a mandate.” Shubhranshu, who defected as an MLA from the TMC to the BJP, contested the Assembly Election this time but lost unlike his father.

It is pertinent to mention that during the poll campaigns the TMC Supremo Mamata Banerjee had time and again claimed that Mukul Roy is better than Suvendu Adhikari.
