Prime Minister Boris Johnson of the UK wedded his long-time girlfriend Carrie Symonds at a top-secret ceremony on 29 May 2021. Many of the PM’s party members didn’t get invited. The close confidants who did get invited were sworn to secrecy and not allowed to speak a word about the wedding or share pictures.

According to the digital platform of The Sun, the wedding celebrations, which have been termed by many as ‘hippy-style’ with decorations including multi-coloured bunting hanging from trees, several hay bales and flowers all around. It began with a lavish tea and went into the wee hours of Sunday morning with a range of cocktails on offer and a lot of folky singalongs and dancing around a fire pit. Boris was in a suit with a blue ‘Tory’ tie. But what caught the world’s eye about the top-secret wedding, was the eco-friendly statement 33-year-old Carrie made at the wedding with her gorgeous trousseau. As per The Sun, Carrie had chosen to rent her floorlength, long-sleeved white gown (worth £2,800) for a mere £45 from MyWardrobeHQ, which she returned the very next day. Some pictures taken by the event’s photographer even showed her barefoot on the lawn.

The couple is expected to celebrate the big day again in July 2022, with the usual fanfare of weddings, for their friends and family.
