Mumbai mayor Kishori Pednekar on Thursday landed herself in controversy over a tweet, in which she allegedly used objectionable language. She later deleted the tweet claiming that her party worker had posted the message from her account.

Responding to a Twitter user’s tweet “Contract Konala Dila? (to whom contract has been given?”, about the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) global tender for Covid-19 vaccine supply, Ms Pednekar replied “Tujhya Bapala! (to your father).”

The mayor later deleted the tweet by claiming that her party worker had posted the message from her account while she was busy with a work commitment.

Ms Pednekar, who belongs to Shiv Sena, said, “A Shiv Sainik sent out that particular tweet from my phone. He may have done it out of anger. I usually check my phone when it comes back in my hands, and I noticed the said tweet. I realised that it was a big mistake and that this should not have been done. However badly others might behave with us, we should not behave the same way with them.”

“I have learned a lesson from this that your mobile phone should not be handed over to a person even if they are close to you,” she further said.

However, she was trolled heavily on social media for the comments in the tweet.
