Modi dials Mukul Roy, talks about health of his wife
‘CM Mamata Banerjee also inquired about my parents through many contacts. I am indebted to her and Abhishek,’ Mukul Roy’s son Shubhrangshu said
Prime Minister Narendra Modi dialled BJP vicepresident Mukul Roy on Thursday morning and inquired about his ailing wife Krishna Roy, who has been admitted to Apollo Gleneagles Hospital after getting infected by Covid-19 along with her husband recently.
The PM’s call to the newly-elected BJP MLA of Krishnanagar North, who recovered from the infection, however, comes a day after chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee suddenly met his son Shubhrangshu Roy, now in the BJP, at the private hospital off EM Bypass in Kolkata to know about his mother’s health, which left the saffron party stumped.
Mr Modi called up Mukul at around 10.30 am. “The PM is a functionary of the BJP. My father also is a functionary there. The PM wanted to know about my mother. My father spoke to him. The CM also inquired about my parents through many contacts.
I am indebted to her and Abhishek. The way they thought about my mother, I think they are unparalled,” Shubhrangshu said.
On the Diamond Harbour Trinamul Congress MP, he later added, “Our relation with Abhishek and his family is not new. It is old. Like my mother cares for him, he also respects her a lot. Whenever he met earlier, he inquired about her first. There was no exception yesterday too. So when he heard of my mother in a critical condition, he rushed to visit her as his own aunt rising above politics. This is more than a courtesy which is not only rare but also take the country's politics to a different map."
Abhishek said, “It is not right to see my visit to Mr Roy’s wife politically. I know and respect her since childhood.”
