Ghosh threatens to leave TMC

‘suffocating’ inside Assembly

- AGE CORRESPONDENT

Unfazed by a revolt against him in his party following its whitewash in the West Bengal Assembly election, state BJP president Dilip Ghosh, on Sunday, threatened to leave the ruling Trinamul Congress “suffocated” inside the Assembly. He even asserted that his party would have come to power, in terms of vote percentage, if it was another state.

The Midnapore BJP MP said, “Our party is doing well. We got around 38 per cent votes this time here. Had it been any other state, we could have formed our government with such a vote bank. We also have 75 seats in the Assembly. We will leave them suffocated inside the Assembly while fighting outside over the plight of the people.”

Lashing out at Mr Ghosh, Baranagar TMC MLA Tapas Roy claimed, “What a dangerous comment! BJP has imposed suffocation across the country in the last seven years. People of Bengal felt it and got relief with the results in the Assembly polls. BJP, irrespective of its state or Central leadership, does not have a political stand except for making dangerous comments.”

Hours after the state BJP chief’s comments, a party worker was murdered by a gang of miscreants, allegedly backed by the TMC, in Barrackpore of North 24 Parganas. The victim, J.P. Yadav, was a jute mill worker. He lived at Bhatpara. In the afternoon, three miscreants visited his home and hurled crude bombs at him. He was fatally injured.

Yadav was declared brought dead at the Bhatpara State General Hospital. The police later detained one of the three accused after finding him lying injured as a bomb had exploded in his hands. Barrackpore BJP MP Arjun Singh visited the area and blamed the TMC for the murder.
