TMC MP objects to BJP neta’s comeback attempt
‘Rajib Banerjee lost importance in saffron party’
Senior Trinamul Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee on Sunday vehemently objected to BJP leader Rajib Banerjee’s veiled attempt to return to chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s party following the footsteps of Krishnanagar North MLA Mukul Roy.
Mr Banerjee made his stand clear a day after the former Cabinet minister of the TMC supremo met her party’s general secretary Kunal Ghosh at his residence within days of slamming the BJP leadership for attacking the CM with the threat of the President’s Rule.
The three-time Serampore MP alleged in the morning: “Rajib spoke against the CM. He also abused the booth level workers. During the Assembly election, he ensured the arrests of TMC workers at night at Domjur in Howrah, where he contested but lost, by complaining to the police through poll observers.”
On Saturday when Rajib met Mr Ghosh, he claimed that it was a “courtesy visit” while brushing aside the speculations about his wish to return to TMC.
Sources however hinted at his desire to make a comeback to the TMC desperately since he lost the polls and importance in the BJP for his explosive comments.
On Sunday evening, Rajib visited state industries minister Partha Chatterjee’s residence to offer his condolences to him after the TMC secretary general’s mother Shibani Chatterjee passed away at the age of 91. What has prompted Rajib to repeatedly make attempts to return to TMC is a sympathy for him by a section of leaders including Firhad Hakim.
