- SANJAY KAW

A record 99.37 per cent of candidates cleared their much-awaited CBSE Class 12 examinations, conducted through an alternate assessment scheme, along with a significant increase in the percentage of candidates who have scored above 95 per cent.

In 2019, 1.47 per cent of candidates had scored above 95 per cent, which had more than doubled to 3.24 per cent in 2020. This year, it has further risen to 5.37 per cent of the 13,69,745 regular candidates.

Of the total candidates who passed the exam this year, more than 1.5 lakh students have scored more than 90 per cent, similar to 2020. In 2019, this number was lower, at about 94,000 students.

The Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas and Kendriya Vidyalayas saw the best performances, with 99.94 and 100 per cent results respectively. The jump in pass percentage has been exceptionally high in private schools —from 88.22 per cent in 2020 to 99.22 per cent this year.

Continuing with the trend, girls have outshone boys, but the margin has been reduced to 0.54 per cent from 5.96 per cent last year. All the transgender candidates who had registered with the CBSE have also cleared the exams.

In the absence of physical exams, cancelled due to lethal second Covid-19 wave, results for this year were declared on the basis of a special 30:30:40 formula — 30 per cent marks from Class 10, 30 per cent from Class 11 and 40 per cent from Class 12, which included internals assessments, unit tests and term exams that schools conducted. This is why the board also decided to not draw up a merit list or a list of names of toppers.

Students who are not satisfied with the manner

of assessment or the marks they get will be allowed to sit for written examinations conducted by the board. A total of 6,149 students, who have been placed under the compartment category, will have to reappear for the exams as and when the CBSE notifies them.

The results of 60,443 students, who had registered under private and patrachar, will be declared after their exams are held from August 16. “The result of about 1,060 new schools is still under process as there was no reference year.
