Bommai meets PM, mantris amid buzz on rejig, dy CMs
Karnataka’s new chief minister Basavraj Bommai on Friday met the BJP’s top brass, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party chief J.P. Nadda. Mr Bommai’s meetings come amid speculation about the number of deputy chief ministers planned in the state and a Cabinet reshuffle and expansion. Mr Bommai tooks the oath as CM Wednesday after his mentor B.S. Yediyurappa had resigned.
Mr Bommai, on a twoday visit to the national capital, also met home minister Amit Shah, defence minister Rajnath Singh, parliamentary affairs minister Pralhad
Joshi and Jal Shakti minister Gajendra Singh Shekhavat, among others.
“Met CM of Karnataka Shri @BSBommai ji today. Conveyed best wishes as he begins a new journey for Karnataka’s progress. Assured full support for the development of Karnataka,” Mr Modi tweeted after the Karnataka CM called on him. Both leaders held
talks for nearly an hour. The Central ministers from Karnataka also called on the PM later.
A statement by the CMO’s office said Mr Bommai had asked the PM to approve an AIIMS for Hubballi-Dharwad and an AIIMS-like institute for Raichur, identified as an aspirational district by the Niti Aayog. The CM also urgedthe PM to upgrade ESIC Medical College and Hospital in Kalaburagi to a regional
AIIMS-like institute.
After the Karnataka CM called on Mr Nadda, the the BJP chief tweeted: “Met CM of Karnataka Shri @BSBommai Ji today. With his vast legislative and administrative experience, I am sure Karnataka will grow by leaps and bounds. I wish him a successful tenure ahead.”
Earlier on Friday, Mr Bommai called on several ministers and hosted a lunch for the MPs from the state.
