Akanksha Singh is glad that her work in the Telugu film industry is getting a lot of recognition. After having been part of Malli Raava and Devadas, the actress has bagged another intense role in Jagapathi Babu and Naveen Chandra’s forthcoming film Gharshana, directed by Vijay and Vishwanath.

“I was earlier part of romantic and family dramas, but this film is a genre-bending one, which suggests that my past work is being appreciated,” she says.

The actress plays a strong and powerful role in Gharshana.

“She’s today’s girl and every girl in this era would like to be like her. She’s independent and yet rooted,” says Akanksha, adding that the layered script with strong conflict points makes the screenplay very interesting.

She reveals that she bonded big time with Jagapathi Babu (JB) and Sarath Kumar. “Most of our on-the-sets conversations were about cinema. Both of them have done phenomenal work and listening to their experiences has been very insightful,” she shares, adding that JB even shared his lunch with her on the sets. “I was craving home-cooked food and JB Sir treated me to some nice Andhra delicacies.” she elaborates. Akanksha says, when filmmakers are penning scripts for her, it is a validation of her good work. She feels she is evolving, with interesting roles. “The opportunities are enabling us actors to push the envelope,” she asserts. Asked whether it was confusing to work with two different directors, she says, “Both are very sorted; although the script is the same, they share the work and direct different scenes, sometimes with different actors.”

With strong and interesting roles, we are evolving as actors. The opportunities are enabling us to push the envelope and give our best
