After DCW plaint, FIR filed for posting derogatory messages against Muslim women on social media
After an intervention by the Delhi Commission for Women, the Delhi Police has registered an FIR against a person for posting derogatory messages against Muslim women on social media.
It was found that the person had posted contact details of Muslims girls on his Instagram account with indecent messages, a release issued by the DCW said.
Taking Suo motu cognizance of the matter, the DCW had issued a notice to the police, to which the police replied earlier that they had not received any such complaint. Following this summons were issued after which an FIR was now registered under sections 295A, 354A, 509 of IPC and a notice was issued to Instagram, the release further said. On interrogation, the 19-year-old accused living in Ghaziabad admitted that he had created this account. During investigation, the police found that the accused is mentally ill and is undergoing mental treatment.
The accused was presented before the court, after which it directed the police to admit him to IHBAS for treatment. The police have informed the commission that it will do further investigation in the matter and will take action.
Meanwhile the chairperson of DCW, Swati Maliwal reacted on the matter saying “We took Suo motu cognizance of the matter after which an FIR was registered. DCW will not tolerate any such lousy act and if anyone else dares to do such a thing further, strict action will be ensured against him”.
