Two ITBP men die in ambush by Maoists in C’garh’s Bastar

Two personnel of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), including an assistant commandant, were killed on Friday as the Maoists ambushed a search party of security personnel in Chhattisga­rh’s south Bastar district of Narayanpur.

The incident took place around 600 meters from the camp of the ITBP’s 45 Battalion at Kademeta in the district. This was the third attack on the security forces by the militants in the district in the last one and a half months.

Bastar Range IGP Sunderraj P. said that an ITBP party which was out on an area domination operation came under attack by a small action team of the Maoists at Kademeta, leading to the killing of assistant commandant Gurmukh Singh and head constable Sudhakar Sindhe.

The Maoists looted an AK-47 assault rifle, two bulletproo­f jackets and one wireless set from the two slain jawans before fleeing the spot.

This was the third Naxalite attack on security personnel in the district in the last one and a half months. The last such attack was on July 20.

On July 20, an ITBP jawan was killed and another injured when Maoists attacked a road opening party of security personnel at Aamdei valley in the district.

The road opening party was sanitising the area to facilitate the movement of local MLA Chandan Kashyap when they came under rebel attack.

On July 3, Maoists raided an iron ore mine at Aamdei being developed by a private firm, killing the supervisor of a constructi­on company engaged in the developmen­t of a road in the area.
