Attack on bangle seller: NCM asks for report from MP govt

- RABINDRA NATH CHOUDHURY

The National Commission for Minorities (NCM) on Tuesday sought a report from the Madhya Pradesh government on the Sunday’s incident in which a bangle seller was thrashed by a mob for “hiding” his identity in Indore.

The commission asked Indore district collector Manish Singh to submit a report on the incident, according to the Indore range inspector general of police Harinarayan Chari Mishra.

Twenty-five-year-old Taslim Ali was beaten by a mob in Indore for allegedly selling bangles to women in an area in Indore using a fake name and also for allegedly molesting a minor girl.

He has been arrested on charges of possessing fake identity cards and molesting a minor girl.

Police also arrested three people on charges of assaulting the youth.

Meanwhile, AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi condemned the attack on the youth describing it a consequence of the “Godse mindset”.

He said that such incidents must be dealt with sternly in the interest of social harmony in the country.

State home minister Narottam Mishra however accused Mr Owaisi of trying to communalise the incident to further his political interest.

“Mr Owaisi must know that rule of law runs in Madhya Pradesh. No one will be allowed to disturb communal harmony in the state”, he said.

He reminded Mr Owaisi that the youth was facing charges of faking his identity cards and molesting a minor girl.

BJP MLA Rameswar Sharma said that Mr Owaisi should not explore a role for him in Madhya Pradesh politics by ‘communalising’ such an incident.

‘I would like to ask Mr Owaisi that he should not try to open his shop (political role) in Madhya Pradesh by communalising the incident,” he said.
