Maharashtra govt agrees to share secret report with CBI
The Maharashtra government on Thursday agreed in the Bombay high court to share its “confidential” report on alleged corruption in police transfers and postings for the CBI’s probe against former state home minister Anil Deshmukh. The CBI had approached the HC after the State Intelligence Department (SID) refused to share Ms Shukla’s report on the grounds that the document was part of its ongoing investigation and not relevant to the CBI’s probe.
Senior counsel Rafique Dada, representing the state government, submitted before the division bench of Justices S.S. Shinde and
N.J. Jamadar that the documents would be handed over to the Central probe agency by August 31.
The documents sought by the CBI included a letter submitted by IPS officer Rashmi Shukla to Maharashtra’s director general of police, a report on alleged corruption in police transfers and postings, annexures of the report, and the panchnama which showed how the documents had been transferred from one department to another.
Till last date of hearing, on the petition filed by the CBI alleging that the state government was not cooperating by refusing to hand over documents which the agency requires for its investigation against NCP leader Anil Deshmukh over alleged corruption and misuse of official position, the Maharashtra government was refusing to hand over these documents saying they did not have any relevance with CBI’s probe against Anil Deshmukh.
The bench earlier this month had asked the government to reconsider its decision and that to inform the court if it was willing to share the documents.
