Japanese film Ring Wandering bags Golden Peacock at 52nd IFFI
Curtains came down on the 52nd International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa on Sunday. Actor Madhuri Dixit Nene was the chief guest at the closing ceremony. Union minister of information and broadcasting Anurag Thakur congratulated the winners and said the government aims to make India a global hub for movie-making and content generation. He mentioned that the government had already acquired 1,000 acres of land in Uttar Pradesh near the Noida airport to set up a film city over there. “From pre-production to post-production, all world-class facilities will be provided in the film city,” Thakur said.
Japanese movie Ring Wandering, a film which resurrected memories of Tokyo’s hidden war-torn past, bagged The Golden Peacock at 52nd IFFI. Czech director Václav Kadrnka bagged the IFFI 52 Silver Peacock for Best Director for Saving One Who Is Dead. The film literally holds a candle of hope amidst the winter of despair.
Marathi actor Jitendra Joshi got the Silver Peacock for Best Actor (Male) for his brilliant portrayal of Late Marathi actor and filmmaker Nishikant Kamat in Godavari. The Silver Peacock for Best Actor (Female) went to Spanish actor Angela Molina for her role in Charlotte. Her performance captivated all the jury members.
Dixit said that the IFFI was doing a commendable job by providing a global platform for Indian content creators. “IFFI is allowing them to showcase the prowess of Indian entertainment on a global stage,” she said. Marathi director Nikhil Mahajan’s Godavari received the Silver Peacock Special Jury Award. The same award was shared by Brazilian actor Renata Carvalho for her role in director Rodrigo de Oliveira’s The First Fallen. Lyricist cum CBFC chairperson Prasoon Joshi was awarded the ‘Indian Film Personality of the Year Award’.
Apart from Dixit, veteran actor Randhir Kapoor and Manoj Bajpayee attended the closing ceremony. Singer Sukhvinder enthralled the audience with his foot tapping songs.
