IT-BPM TO ADD 3.75 LAKH JOBS IN FY22: REPORT

- SANGEETHA G CHENNAI, DEC. 8

The Information Technology and Business Process Management sector is expected to add 3.75 lakh new jobs in FY22.

The sector will see its total headcount moving up from 44.7 lakh to 48.5 lakh in FY22 while adding 3.75 lakh new jobs and growing by 7.5 per cent. The sector is aided by increased investments in the sector and rapid adoption of technology by enterprises due to the pandemic and remote working. The IT BPM industry is on a positive hiring trajectory, as per Teamlease report.

Amongst digital skills, 13 skill sets are going to be largely in demand and are in fact expected to record a 7.5 per cent growth in this fiscal over FY21. These skills include data engineering, data analytics and visualisation, cloud and devOps, cyber security, machine learning, artificial intelligence and mobile app development.

However, the demandsupply gap is widening for data engineering, data science, machine learning and artificial intelligence skills. Companies are expected to practice different upskilling and cross training initiatives to reduce the supply gap.

“The Indian IT-BPM sector is at the cusp of unprecedented growth. Apart from being the largest private sector employer, the IT-BPM industry is transforming India into a hub for “digital skills”. About 43 per cent of our customers are expecting to increase digital skills hiring by at least 30 per cent or more this year. However, what is concerning is the demandsupply gap. Addressing the talent deficit will require organisations to re-look at their HR strategies,” said Sunil C., headspecialised staffing, TeamLease Digital.

IT contract staffing is expected to increase from 1.26 lakh to 1.48 lakh employees by March 2022, growing 17 per cent over last year. Also, the contracting industry is expected to grow rapidly.
