Low-intensity explosion in Rohini court, 1 injured
The incident comes months after a gangster was shot dead inside the court complex
Delhi’s Rohini district court once again hit the headlines after a lowintensity explosion inside a courtroom on Thursday morning, which created panic among the lawyers and public while leaving a man injured.
It also raised questions on the court’s security as the incident comes months after dreaded jailed gangster Jitendra Gogi was shot dead by two men, who were dressed as lawyers, inside a courtroom of the same court on September 24. The police, in retaliatory fire, killed the assailants who were from the slain gangster’s rival Tillu gang.
The explosion took place inside courtroom no. 102 which belongs to metropolitan magistrate Prituraj. There were 77 cases listed on Thursday for hearing at the said court that were related to drugs and one case of the CBI.
Initially, it was suspected that the blast was due to a laptop. Soon after the blast, DCP (Rohini) Pranav Tayal rushed to the spot to assess the situation. A forensic team was also present to examine the nature of the blast and take crucial evidence from the place where the explosion took place.
Prima facie, the incident seems to have taken place in a black backpack which was found lying at the spot, Delhi police PRO Chinmoy Biswal said. The officer said one naib court head constable Rajeev sustained minor injuries and is being treated at a hospital.
“Forensic teams have collected the evidence from the spot and taken it for examination. A case has been registered and investigation is being carried out by the special cell of the Delhi police,” he added.
According to the information, white powder was found at the spot where the blast took place. According to forensic sources, the white powdery substance has been sent for forensic examination. The fire officials said they received information about the explosion at 10.40 am, following which seven fire tenders were rushed to the spot.
Police said that an assembled device has been found inside the bag and it has been sent for examination. Police are still ascertaining whether it was an explosive device.
