With farmers leaving, protest sites to be vacated by Dec. 15

More than half of the protesting farmers at Ghazipur border have vacated the protest site already and left for their respective native places. However, the process of dismantlin­g the rest of the tents is underway.

“The stage on the peripheral roads above the flyover from where we began our agitation has been taken down. The remaining part of the road will also be cleared for traffic movement. Most of the protesting farmers have already left while those associated with BKU are still here and will leave as decided before December 15,” said Atul Tripathi, a farmer and member of BKU.

Two langars are still functionin­g and will leave when the rest of the farmers vacate. The road under the flyover will also be cleared completely by then and all the roads will be functional from December 15, he said.

At the Tikri border, the multi-layered barriers placed at the Rohtak Road, which was occupied by the protesting farmers, have been completely removed as the protesting farmers have also left the spot, a senior police officer said.

“There is no obstructio­n on the way. The two sides of the roads are completely open for vehicular traffic movement,” he said.

At Ghazipur border, the roads will be completely clear only after the protesting farmers leave completely. As per informatio­n, the site will be completely vacated by December 15, said a senior police officer.

“Once the protest site gets cleared, the specific roads will be open to ensure smooth flow of traffic,” he added.

The process of clearing the roads is underway at the Singhu border. The roads are likely to be open for vehicular traffic by Monday evening, said a senior police officer.
