I have become paranoid’

- — Sabina Xavier,

Covid is very personal and people react to it based on their own experiences and knowledge. Two new words have been added to my vocabulary during this pandemic — ‘coviphobic’ and ‘covidiots’. I am coviphobic!

It’s been a very hard and challenging time. Christmas is only big festival and we look forward to sharing the joy with friends and family. It’s now the second Covid Christmas and I’ve learned to adapt out of fear and caution.

From big parties of over a 150 people, it’s become much much smaller with only close friends and family. Social distancing and masking up has become the new norm. It broke my heart to see this year’s cookie decorating party was for only a few close friends’ kids and they were all masked up at the table. Pictures by the tree are with us all masked up. I choose to send out cakes instead of inviting people over home.

A meal at a table is out unless I am certain the people I am with have tested negative. Rapid test kits are stocked up at home. And socializing is very very limited. This is me.

Paraonia, bravery, stupidity… the labels are all around. I’ve been called a whacko so many times over this pandemic and I now take it in my stride. I don’t know if Omicron is here or Delta has even gone.

I fully understand that it is frustrating to live a life with so many restrictions. People are fed up and it takes a toll on mental health. Many have got covid and recovered and seem to be okay. So, yes, it’s very personal and each one must do as they wish.”
