Roll back New Education Policy 2020: AISA

- SUPRIYA KUMARI

Terming the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 as an attack on the education system of the country, the All India Students’ Association (AISA) has launched a national campaign called ‘Roll Back NEP 2020’.

Addressing a press conference at Press Club of India here on Friday, RJD MP Manoj Jha said: “NEP is a regressive policy, instead of progression what we have found in this document is regression.”

Supporting the movement against the policy, the RJD MP further said that this movement should gather the same kind of momentum as the farmers’ movement gathered.

At the conference, chaired by N. Sai Balaji (AISA national president), the panel also included S Irfan Habib (author and historian) , Prof Nandita Narain (ex-Duta president) , Prof Maushumi Basu (secretary, JNUTA), Prof Pankaj Jha (historian), Prof Ratan Lal (professor, DU) and several others. “The draft NEP is a combination of high sounding phrases and mockery of education,” said Prof Ratan Lal (professor, DU).

The conference was attended by more than 150 students and teachers, unilaterally rejecting the NEP 2020.

Calling the policy as saffronisation of education Prof Syed Irfan Habib said, “this government and NEP seek to saffronise our whole culture and our daily lives”.

Further Prof Maushumi Basu said: “The crisis of capitalism is leading the government and corporations to destroy our education system. Student and teacher movement must unite to fight this onslaught!”

Meanwhile the AISA has declared open a 50-day campaign against the New Education Policy, culminating in Parliament Gherao during the upcoming budget session.
