Minor boy beaten to death by father for playing game on mobile phone

A minor boy was beaten to death, allegedly by his father, after the latter found him playing game on phone and not studying in south Delhi’s Neb Sarai area, police said on Friday. The accused father has been arrested, police said.

On Thursday, Neb Sarai police station received informatio­n from Max Hospital Saket that Gyan Pandey alias Utkarsh (5), a resident of Narayana Apartment, Khanpur Village, has been admitted in the hospital and declared brought dead, police said. Police reached the hospital where MLC was received in which doctor mentioned that the child was brought by his mother in emergency around 10 pm in an unconsciou­s and unresponsi­ve state, scratch marks were present on right side of the neck, police said.

During enquiry, doctor said that the deceased child’s parents did not give informatio­n. Thereafter, enquiry from the parents of deceased was made, but they did not give any satisfacto­ry reply. It was found that there were marks and bruises on both hands, legs, body and on neck, police said.

On Friday, police received informatio­n from child helpline number where the caller said that the father of Utkarsh beaten him up who died when he was taken to the hospital, a senior police officer said.

During investigat­ion, police spoke to locals of and neighbours of the deceased who said that the father of the child used to beat him up. Later, the accused, identified as Aditya Pandey (27), confessed his crime, Deputy Commission­er of Police (south) Bentia Mary Jaiker said. The body was preserved at AIIMS hospital mortuary for post-mortem. The accused has been arrested, police said.

During interrogat­ion, Aditya, who supplies milk, said that when he returned after work home on Thursday around 6 pm, he saw his son was not studying, playing game on phone and was not listening to him, police said.

He got angry and started beating the child with a wooden stick, police said.
