‘I am a relationships person’
Rukshar’s upcoming film talks about marriage and relationships
ADJUSTMENTS ARE NEEDED IN ANY HEALTHY RELATIONSHIP. BUT NOT TO THE EXTENT THAT IT AFFECTS YOUR BELIEFS, CULTURE AND VALUE SYSTEMS. I AM NOT AGAINST MARRIAGE. IDEALLY, I WOULD PREFER TO CHOOSE MY PARTNER AFTER BEING IN A RELATIONSHIP

Rukshar Dhillon has worked in multiple industries — Kannanda, Telugu and Hindi. And she’s looking forward to her upcoming film in Telugu, Ashoka Vanamlo Arjuna Kalyanam.
“During the first wave of the pandemic I was working on a Hindi film, Bhangra Paa Le. Later, I did two content-driven web shows. And then I was approached for the Vidya Sagar directorial. I heard the script and am glad I got to work with a new and a young team,” says Rukshar, who has wrapped up the shooting of her part. The film’s plot has layers that deliver a message for society. And what hooked the actress was the writing. “It shows the transition of a couple. It has mixed emotions but is entertainingly packaged,” says Rukshar, who plays Madhavi, a girl who doesn’t have much exposure to the city’s culture although she’s raised in the city. For someone who hasn’t had any formal training as an actor, it is quite challenging to express her heart through her eyes, which she does in this film. “I connected to emotions that I had in my real life, that’s the only preparation I had,” she shares, adding that the real Rukshar is completely different from Madhavi. The romantic drama is about marriage and relationships. At a time when relationships have become fragile, the ABCD actress insists that it’s important never to be stuck in a wrong one.
Describing herself as ‘a complete relationships person’, the actress says she believes in committed and honest relationships.
Rukshar reveals that she was in a relationship earlier. “When I was in it, I gave it everything,” she says, asserting that adjustments are needed in any healthy relationship. “But not to the extent that it affects your beliefs, culture and value systems,” she clarifies, adding that relationships need time and investment. “I am 28 now and happy being independent,” she stresses.
When we ask whether she believes in the concept of marriage, she replies, “I am not against marriage. Ideally, I would prefer to choose my partner after being in a relationship.”
It’s been six years since Rukshar entered the film industry and she says her mindset has completely changed, especially post Covid, where she had a lot of time to think about herself. “I noticed a sea change in my thought process. I am different in my approach to acting. I am composed now. I know what I want and how I want the scenes to be, that’s because the pandemic gave me so much time to dig deep into what I wanted. I felt that I was able to connect more to myself,” she comments.
Rukshar who graduated in fashion designing, says that she’s content with her journey and is looking forward to more work. And she’s particularly elated over the fact that the roles for women have become stronger. “The way the roles are being written for women have definitely changed from where I started. It has changed for the good. We have much more scope and (rightfully) we have become the core elements in the plot,” she says, adding that women are not only getting authorbacked roles, but are also performing credibly.
I NOTICED A SEA CHANGE IN MY THOUGHT PROCESS AFTER THE PANDEMIC. I AM DIFFERENT IN MY APPROACH TO ACTING. I AM COMPOSED NOW. I KNOW WHAT I WANT AND HOW I WANT THE SCENES TO BE
