Uddhav sets tone for BMC election
Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday attacked BJP for not maintaining standard in the politics. Mr Thackeray said that he would hold a public rally after May 14 and speak out wholeheartedly. The chief minister launched the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) “water for all” policy at a public rally. With this policy, every citizen of Mumbai would get a legal water connection from the BMC, he said.
Earlier, the BMC didn’t provide water to encroachers, illegal huts and buildings which didn’t have occupation certificates. The civic body has taken a decision on the Supreme Court order which says that water is a fundamental right of every Citizen of India.
Taking a dig at “achche din” (good days) promise, the BJP’s tagline for election campaign in the general election, the Shiv Sena chief said that the people would not accept these false promises every time. “The people will believe such promises one or two times, but not every time. And the people should not tolerate it,” Mr. Thackeray said.
Accusing the Opposition of not allowing his government to work, Mr Thackeray said, “Do politics, but maintain some standard.”
The present Opposition party does not have the quality of praising the government’s work.
BMC chief Iqbal Singh Chahal said that the civic body is providing water on humanitarian grounds because the Supreme Court and United Nations had said that every soul should get it. “Not a Single citizen of Mumbai will be deprived of water,” he said.
According to the BMC, ‘water for all’ policy will reduce the number of illegal water connections and cases of water leakage and contamination.
