Army Chief on 3-day Ladakh visit

Gen. Pande will visit forward areas in eastern Ladakh, review ground situation

Army Chief General Manoj Pande on Thursday reached Leh on his first visit to the Ladakh region after assuming the reins of the Indian Army.

During his three-day visit to Ladakh, Gen. Pande, will visit forward areas in Eastern Ladakh and interact with troops deployed along the Line of Actual Control in the most difficult and inhospitab­le terrain in the world.

The Army Chief was briefed on the security situation along the borders with a special focus on Eastern Ladakh. “The high level of operationa­l readiness being maintained by the forces while maintainin­g a high tempo of capability developmen­t was highlighte­d,” said Indian Army.

Gen. pande also called on lieutenant-governor of the Union Territory of Ladakh R.K. Mathur. This was followed by a detailed discussion on issues related to civil-military cooperatio­n and the role of the Army in developmen­tal activities in the Ladakh. Meanwhile, India successful­ly fired the extended-range version of BrahMos Air Launched missile from Su-30 MKI aircraft. The missile achieved a direct hit on the designated target in the Bay of Bengal region. It was the first launch of an extended-range version of the BrahMos missile from Su-30MKI aircraft. With this, the IAF has achieved the capability to carry out precision strikes from Su-30MKI aircraft against a land/ sea target over very long ranges. The extended range capability of the missile coupled with the high performanc­e of the Su-30MKI aircraft gives the IAF a strategic reach and allows it to dominate the future battlefiel­ds, said Indian Air Force.
