2 C’garh govt docs beaten by ‘members of inspection team’
Two doctors of a primary health centre (PHC) in Duldula under Jashpur district in Chhattisgarh were late on Wednesday night thrashed by some members of an official inspection team.
Dr Maheswar Manik and Dr Nitish Sonwani were allegedly bashed by some members of the inspection team.
The two doctors tendered their resignation along with the footage of the CCTV installed in the PHC to the local Block Medical Officer (BMO) immediately after the incident, members of the medical staff in the PHC said.
The inspection team also comprised Jashpur district collector Ritesh Agrawal and ruling Congress MLA from Kunkuri in the district U D Minj.
In their resignation letters, the two medicos alleged that some members of the inspection team who were in an inebriated condition assaulted them. The two doctors also made the video clip viral, leading the entire medical staff of the PHC to go on flash strike on Thursday.
The agitating staff said they would not join duty as long as FIR was not filed against the culprits.
The development has forced the Jashpur district collector Ritesh Agrawal to constitute a team headed by local additional district magistrate to probe the incident.
Jashpur is a tribal dominated district and doctors usually do not prefer posting in the PHCs in the district.
Leaders cutting across party lines condemned the attack on the two doctors and demanded action against the accused.
BJP leader Prabal Pratap Singh regretted that the attack on the two doctors took place when the district collector and the Congress MLA were present in the premises of the PHC.
