Comedy takes more effort, says Varun Tej…

…talking about F3

- SASHIDHAR ADIVI

Varun Tej, recently posted a ‘note’ on his social media apologising to his fans for the failure of his last film Ghani. “I was disappointed with the result. So I just wanted to convey that the project was perhaps an error in judgment, and not lack of hard work,” he said, adding that he had genuinely believed in the plot and given it his all.

The actor made it clear that though he was not obliged to give such a statement, it came from his heart and was done for his own satisfaction.

Meanwhile, Varun’s next, F3, is a much-talked-about film. Also starring Venkatesh, the Anil Ravipudi directorial is a franchise-based film that features Varun at his comic best.

He reveals that he was excited when he learnt about the film. “I remember the director telling me a few scenes about F3, while shooting for F2. After F2 was a super hit, Venkatesh garu and I thought we should continue the franchise,” says the actor.

While Venky’s character has a night blindness issue, Varun’s character has a stammer in the film, which focuses on people’s love for money.

“I was a little apprehensive about the role, since I haven’t done many comedy roles. I realised that doing comedy is difficult; it takes more effort,” he said, but added that once he started shooting for the film, he was at ease.

Varun, who has done roles in all genres, says each character has its own curve.

At a time when ‘Pan-India’ is the buzzword, and audiences are consuming a wide range of content on OTT, Varun feels it’s challenging to choose scripts that have wider appeal.

“At the same time, it’s good too, because that’s when we actors start to experiment and look for out-of-thebox scripts and get better films,” he says.

His next film is an action entertainer under Praveen Sattaru, which will be predominantly shot in London.
