In a 6-minute video, she discussed being hospitalised for mental health problems. “I am better. I have been really unwell for a long time. I want to be honest with everyone. I have been struggling... I am going to take a little bit of a break for myself and I would encourage others, if you are struggling, do yourself a favour and take a break... If I have any advice for my younger self, I would just tell myself, ‘Listen, it’s not all doom and gloom, even when you hit rock bottom’”, Ruby Barker said.

Ruby Barker’s post received 105,000 likes and over 1,000 comments, almost all of which wished her well and encouraged her to stay strong. She is one among the many celebrities who have started speaking up on the importance of caring for one’s mental health

Ruby Barker, best known for her roles as Yakira in the 2020 film How to Stop a Recurring Dream and, more recently, Marina Thompson in the Netflix series Bridgerton, announced her release from the hospital in a new video posted on Monday. In the video, the actress talked about being hospitalised for mental health issues. “Mental health week is every week for me. Off my chest. I feel like I’ve not been completely honest so this is for my followers. Time to be transparent. I’ve been struggling since Bridgerton, this is the truth. Thank you all for supporting me, your love holds me up. #mentalhealthawareness,” she captioned her Instagram post.

Previously, in a 6-minute video, she discussed being hospitalised for mental health problems. “I am better. I have been really unwell for a long time. I want to be honest with everyone. I have been struggling. I am in hospital at the minute and I am going to be discharged soon and hopefully get to continue with my life. I am going to take a little bit of a break for myself and I would encourage others, if you are struggling, do yourself a favour and take a break, stop being so hard on yourself.”

She opened up about carrying the burden of the world on her back, speaking about rage and “all this intergenerational trauma bundled up inside me.” “And now I am at the point where I have a diagnosis, I am drawing a line in the sand. I can’t carry on the way that I was. I need to change so that is what I am trying to do. I want to survive and I will survive; I am going to,” she asserted.

The actor also expressed gratitude towards her friends, Bridgerton team, the medical community of the NHS, as well as the media for reaching out to her.

“It made me feel so happy to be alive. I didn’t expect so many people will reach out to me after watching the video. It made me feel less alone. A big shout-out to the NHS taking care of me. I’m doing ok. If I have any advice for my younger self, I would just tell myself, ‘Listen, it’s not all doom and gloom, even when you hit rock bottom’,” she said in the video clip.
