BJP: Cong trying to cover up corruption by Gandhi family

- AGE CORRESPONDENT

Taking on the Congress over its “satyagraha” to stage protests against its leader and Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi’s questioning by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the National Herald money laundering case, the BJP on Wednesday claimed that covering up the Gandhi family’s alleged graft is the “true satya” of its “satyagraha.”

Invoking Mahatma Gandhi’s decision to calloff the Congress’ non-cooperation movement due to violence, the ruling party said the opposition party’s “violent protests” now for opposing the probe in a case of corruption “shows how small the party has become.” BJP national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi, while addressing a press conference at the party headquarters, said the opposition party’s stir shows its “progressive decline.”

The BJP leader said Rahul Gandhi, who is being questioned by the ED in the National Herald case, is neither his party’s president nor the leader of the opposition as he questioned the Congress’ show of strength for him. He also sought to know why most of its MPs and two Congress chief ministers are in the national capital, when they should be in their respective states taking care of the people, who elected them.

“For the last three days, the Congress is using violence to hide corruption of the Gandhi family, which shows the smallness of its leadership…from Mahatma Gandhi to Sonia and Rahul Gandhi, the Congress has witnessed a progressive decline,” said Dr Trivedi.

The Congress had been protesting against the ED’s summons to Mr Gandhi who appeared before the investigating agency on Wednesday for the third consecutive day of questioning in the National Herald money laundering case. Congress leaders and workers staged protests outside the ED office and the party headquarters and were detained by police.
