In a first-of-its-kind initiative, the local administration in Bhind district in Madhya Pradesh has ordered four people accused of booth capturing during polling in their village in the June 25 rural body elections to pay `5.02 lakh towards expenses borne for the repolling in the booth, caused by their actions.

Sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) of 3Lahar block R.A. Prajapati served notices to Ajey Singh, Saurav Chouhan, Rampratap alias Raju Singh and Dharmendra Singh, to deposit `1,25,500 each towards expenses borne for conducting repolling in Panchokhara village on June 27.

The SDM said the said amount was borne by the local administration for conducting repolling in the booth.

The state election commission incurred expenses for the deployment of 70 police personnel, 10 polling officials and a host of other officials to conduct repolling in the booth.

The officials deployed for the repolling were paid allowances, due to them, and fed, the notice said.

Besides, the poll body has incurred expenses for making arrangements for repolling, it added.

The SDM warned that the “illegal houses” of the four accused would be bulldozed if they failed to pay the amount.

The repolling was held in the polling booth number 52 in the village. All the four accused were arrested and sent to jail.

In another development, the local administration in Piparada village under Guna district in Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday bulldozed “illegal structures” of the miscreants involved in the attack on the polling party and police personnel on the polling day on June 25.

Around 250 people in the village had attacked the polling party and cops on the polling day by pelting stones at them, damaging the police vehicles.
