‘Tweets by netas not in sync with Cong party line’

- AGE CORRESPONDENT

The revamped ‘new’ communications department of the Congress is facing a new challenge in trying to enforce the party line on social media platforms. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has reacted to posts of several party leaders on Twitter that were not in sync with the party line. Senior leader Acharya Pramod Krishnan has been ticked off twice by Jairam Ramesh for his remarks on the Udaipur incident and the crisis in the MVA coalition in Maharashtra.

Retweeting Acharya Pramod’s tweet on the Udaipur murder case, Jairam Ramesh wrote, “Before crossing the Lakshman Rekha for the second time, one should have thought once respected Pramod Tyagi ji. What you have written is way beyond the facts anyway.” Earlier, on June 22, when Acharya Pramod had tweeted that Uddhav Thackeray should step down, Ramesh’s tweet made it clear that, “These are not the views of the Congress party, and Acharya Pramod Krishnan is not the offic i a l spokesperson of the Congress.”

The party is also concerned with the line taken by Lok Sabha MP and former union minister Mr. Manish Tewari on the newly proposed Agniveer scheme by the central government. Though in his several assertions and posts Mr. Tewari several times has made it clear that the views expressed by him are his personal and not of the party. Even after Mr. Tewari’s clarifications party’s communication chief Mr. Jairam Ramesh had to put out the party stand on social media platforms.

Meanwhile Congress insiders claim that an idea is being mulled by the party to issues “communication advisory” to all its senior leaders as far as their stand on critical national issues are concerned.
