British Council India launches alumni fund and national science competition
The British Council last week hosted the 2nd GREAT Oxbridge Lecture in New Delhi in collaboration with the Oxford and Cambridge Society of India. On his maiden visit to India, Sir Ciaran Devane, Chief Executive, British Council, reiterated his commitment to the ‘2016 UK-India Year of Education, Research and Innovation’ as agreed between Indian PM Narendra Modi and UK PM David Cameron, with the launch of the UK Alumni Digital Innovation Fund that will simulate alumni associations and the launch of FameLab, a national talent competition for young scientists, in India. With the objective of supporting future UK-India cultural relations, he announced 291 new GREAT scholarships, an increased number of Chevening awards, Commonwealth and Charles Wallace scholarships. The 2016 UK-India Year of Education, Research and Innovation is a year-long campaign that aims to highlight the strength and mutual benefits of the bilateral relation between India and the UK across a range of digital technology enabled education and training initiatives. UCLA Extension, the continuing and professional education division of the University of California at Los Angeles, and Univariety, the largest college planning system for high schools in India, have launched Green Belt certification in Global Career Counselling (GCC), first of its kind in Asia. It will address the increasing need for skilled student counsellors in schools, and is a complete guide to career counselling, its techniques, recent practices and trends. The 40hour, self-paced programme is targeted at teachers, aspiring teachers, career counsellors, psychology counsellors and all who are interested in taking up career counselling as a career option.
