Digvijaya bats for RJD chief

-

“Yadavs have been traditional gau sewaks”

As the political battle for Bihar hots up over the issue of beef and backwards. Congress general secretary Digvijaya Singh has come out in support of the Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad Yadav who has been battling BJP’s fire after his remarks that “Hindus also eat beef.”

Though Yadav has made amends, the BJP has been relentless in its criticism of the RJD chief, using it as a counter to the anti-reservation remarks by the RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat.

In an interaction with journalists, Singh said: “The Yadavs have been the traditional gau sewaks for generations. Over the years it is they who have been in the service of cows, not the Digvijaya Singhs or Rajnath Singhs ( who are rajputs by caste).””

Citing his personal experience, Singh said that he has been to the Yadav’s leader home in Patna and observed the “”çaring way’ in which cows are treated there. “To paint him in any other colour is unjust,” he added.

The Congress leader who proudly talks about his personal beliefs as a devout Hindu observed that the biggest challenge is not make in India, but unite India. ”The danger that we face is not of an economic slowdown, but of a communal divide that seeks to tear the fabric of secular India so assiduously built by Mahatma Gandhi and Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru”, he added. Singh who is known for steadfast adherence to positions taken by him on critical issues maintained that the Congress party would support the government if it brings a central law for ban on cow slaughter.
