Indrani back in jail, ready for questioning

SHEENA BORA MURDER: JJ hospital submits her medical report in sealed cover to court

- STAFF REPORTER

Indrani Mukerjea, who is the prime suspect in the Sheena Bora murder case, was discharged from JJ Hospital on Tuesday evening, following which she was sent back to Byculla Women’s Jail.

Dr TP Lahane, dean of JJ Hospital, said that her vital parameters and blood pressure were normal at the time of discharge.

Indrani had been recuperating in the hospital since Friday after an alleged overdose of anti-depressant pills. However, she is back in the jail after she was declared mentally and physically fit by the hospital on Tuesday. Following this, her statement will be recorded by Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning by the Byculla police, sources added.

The hospital authorities submitted Indrani's medical report in a sealed cover to the court, which is likely to pass an order on Wednesday on the permission sought by her lawyer to meet her.

Earlier in the day, Lahane had said: “There is improvement in Indrani’s condition. She is fully conscious and talking to doctors. A panel of doctors involved in her treatment will decide when to allow police authorities to record her statement.”

Indrani also informed a local court through her lawyer that she has no objection to being questioned by the CBI in jail.

Despite repeated attempts of contacting Inspector General (Prisons) Bipin Kumar Singh, he remained unavailable for the comment.

Her statement will be recorded by Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning by the Byculla police, sources said. The court is likely to pass an order on Wednesday on the permission sought by her lawyer to meet her.
