In a bizarre incident, the University of Mumbai failed a student in a subject which she had neither applied for nor appeared for the examination of. The student has been doing the rounds of examination department since a month, but could not resolve her probem after which she registered a police complaint against the university.

Ekata Talwar, TYBCom student of Rushi Dayanand National (RDN) College, Bandra West, had opted for ‘International Economics’ paper however in the official university portal, her results showed that she is failed in the ‘Regional Economic’ paper.

Ekta, who is working as a receptionist with a private bank, gave her TYBCom examination in April 2014. She had opted for the subjects Financial System, Import & Export, Advance Economics Theories, Growth and Development, Research Methodologies and International Economics.

She said, “I cleared five subjects except – International Economics. In November 2014, I gave the examination and I got result the day before I appear for another examination on April 27, 2015. I had appeared for the same paper – International Economics.”

“Five months after the examination, I did not receive my mark sheet. On the university website, my results show that I have failed the Regional Economics paper which I have not opted for.

Several times, I visited the examination department of the university. Every time, they ask me to come after four days. Finally, I register a complaint with BKC police station. The police have gone to university examination

department.”

University Registrar MA Khan said: “We have learned about the complaint. I have asked for papers from the examination department. She will get justice.”
