Gandhi scion revives 'Suit boot ki Sarkar' barb

- CHHAYA MISHRA Patna

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who spoke at two different election meetings at Barbigha and Ghosi respectively, on Wednesday, spoke in the same language and attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Rahul who addressed three election rallies, lavishly praised Nitish Kumar and said Nitish goes to the people in different parts of Bihar while Narendra Modi prefers to stay abroad most of the time and never goes to the people in India. Rahul said that the PM likes to mingle with sophisticated people in ‘suit-boot’ only and not with the poor Indians. He commented that the PM changed his dress 16 times a day during his recent tour to the USA.

Rahul said the UPA Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had waived the loans of 20000 farmers but Narendra Modi had no concern about the farmer’s suicide. “Narendra Modi talks only about himself in his ‘Mann ki Baat’ program and not of common man”, Rahul said.

He also questioned Modi government’s intentions on granting special status to Bihar. “It’s been over a year since the BJP came in power. If they really wanted to give Bihar a special status, what’s taking so long,” Rahul asked.

Rahul, however, did not talk about RJD president Lalu Prasad Yadav, who is also an alliance partner of the grand alliance.

Like Rahul, Nitish too criticized Narendra Modi and said that the PM was more concerned about his image abroad and has not fulfilled the promises that he made in the last general elections. “He backed out of his promise to grant special status to Bihar and his commitment to bring black money from abroad”, he alleged.

According to him, in the 2014 general election campaign Narendra Modi had said that Rs 15 lakh will be deposited in the account of every Indian but till date even 15 paise had not come.

The PM talks about clean image and honest politics but his BJP MP from Arrah shamed the BJP leadership by alleging party sold tickets to criminals and has refused to join the election campaign of BJP, Nitish said. He said that he has not obliged any criminal in the assembly elections. Like Rahul, Nitish too ignored Lalu Prasad in his speech,

something that has now become a regular feature of his speech.

Narendra Modi will address three election rallies on Thursday and another

three on Friday. He will be staying in Patna on Thursday evening.
