The phase III assembly elections in West Bengal witnessed violence at several places and a CPI(M) supporter was killed in Domkol in Mursidabad district.

A violence took place in Domkal in Mursidabad district when a CPI(M) supporter was shot dead in front of polling booth number 178. The CPI(M) leadership alleged that the party supporter was murdered by the Trinamool Congress goons. But the chief minister Mamata Banerjee refuted the allegation and said no party supporter was involved in the incident.

In Burdwan's Khandaghosh area, a CPI(M) agent has allegedly been attacked by ruling party goons. In Ketugram, Trinamool Congress supporters allegedly hurled bombs to create panic among the voters. Surya Kanta Mishara, the leader of the opposition and CPI(M) leader alleged that the Election Commission was completely failed to arrange a free and a fair poll adding that his party would demand to the Election Commission about re-polling in some booths.

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi also criticized about the violence on the poll day. Addressing an election rally in Howrah this evening he said that there were report of violence in every phase of poll in West Bengal.

“What type of election is it? People are losing their lives! This is the indication that the chief minister Mamata Banerjee has admitted that her party will not be able to come to power in this election,” he said.

However, the arrogance of some of the ruling party leaders was so high that one of them had even made derogatory comments against the Election Commission. Later the Election Commission asked the police to arrest the Trinamool Congress leader Anwar Khan from Dum Dum. But Anwar fled from his residence and after a hot chase the police arrested him.

There were allegations of false voting and intimidation to the voters by the ruling Trinamool Congress supporters across the state. Union minister Babul Supriya was also not spared.

Babul Supriya went to Arya Kanya School in Jorasnko assembly constituen- cy with his parents to cast their votes. Some Trinamool Congress supporters had made some derogatory comments against him. After the Union Minister challenged them, an altercation ensued between Babul Supriya and Trinamool Congress supporters. Babul Supriya chased a Trinamool Congress supporter and nabbed him after running a few metres. He handed the ruling party supporters to the po- lice and asked them how a political party supporter was allowed to stay near the polling booth. Babul Supriya alleged that the Trinamool Congress supporter was in an inebriated condition adding that the police was a silent spectator when the incident occurred. Later a huge contingent rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. Union Home minister Rajnath Singh later talked to Babul Supriya and took a preliminary report of the incident.

The Vivekandna flyover which collapsed a few days back is located in the Jorasanko Assembly constituency where the BJP is expecting to win the election as the common voters have held Mamata Banerjee's government responsible for its negligence in keeping watch on the construction.

The elections were held on Thursday in 62 constituencies of four districts including Burdwan, Nadia, Mursidabad and some constituencies of kolkata.
