Woman to attempt solo drive from UK to India!
Bharulata Kamble, an Indian origin woman, who holds dual citizenship of England and Australia will be attempting a 75-day solo drive from UK to India.
She will begin her jour ney in July this year. Her jour ney will entail driving through two continents and 28 countries, a distance of 31,000 km.
If she completes the task she has set before her, she will become the first woman to drive solo on a trans-continental drive.
She will be driving through 5,500 kms of mountains, reaching the altitude of 3700 meters above sea level and 2,500 kms through desert areas. “I will be setting a ‘world record’ by completing the longest solo trans-continental car jour ney. The record will be observed and recorded by Guinness Book of World Records,” Bharulata said.
“I am doing this to raise funds for the provision of medical care for the poor and underprivileged in rural India. This drive also supports the cause ‘save the girl child’, and ‘women empowerment and education’ in India,” she added.
She will start her jour ney on July 16 from Luton, UK, via multiple European countries and cities. The drive will also entail a drive of 708 kms north of the Arctic Circle creating a new record and breaking a record of a British woman , Victor Bruce who had driven with her husband, jour nalist and an engineer from England to Arctic Circle and 400 kms from north of the Arctic Circle and planted her country’s flag there.
“No one has broken this record since 89 years. I am planning to reach the northmost point of Europe in Arctic Circle where the road ends and plant India’s flag there”, said Bharulata Kamble. “Since the road ends there, no one will be able to break my record,” she said.
This would be the first-ever driving expedition by a solo woman to Nordkapp in Norway. From Nordkaap , Bharulata will head towards New Delhi via various European cities, Belarus, Russia, Kazakasthan, China and Myanmar.
She is planning to end her jour ney at Mahad in Raigad district, which is her in-laws’ hometown.
Bharulata said CM Devendra Fadnavis will be welcoming her on her arrival to Ma- harashtra. She claimed to have met him in his bungalow recently. She will be reaching Mahad on 27th September. “The trip will be sponsored by my husband,” she said.
So far, Bharulata has completed 3 test drive trips across Europe in February to March 2016 to prepare herself for the big jour ney.
She recalls one instance where, when pregnant, she drove over 1700 kms from Souther n England to Aberdeen, Scotland in less than 18 hours. “When at the time of labour also I drove to hospital myself and then got admitted there and called up my husband to infor m the same. I have always been independent,” she said.
“In September I will definitely bring the award along with me and build a world record” she said.
