Pratyusha was badly drunk at time of suicide

- RAJIV SHARMA

In a new turn to the alleged suicide of film actress Pratyusha Banerjee, the chemical analysis report is out, which says that she was under the heavy influence of alcohol at the time of her death. Medical reports show that the alcohol content in her body was around 135 milligrams.

The actress was found hanging from the ceiling at her house at Goregaon earlier this month by boyfriend Rahul Raj Singh. She was rushed to a local hospital where she was declared dead before admission and the body was sent for an autopsy examination. The provisional cause of death at that time was given as suicide with ‘‘evidence of ligature around the neck.’’ Nonetheless, to eliminate other causes, the viscera went for chemical analysis and the uterus for histopathology examination.

Police sources revealed that they have received the chemical analysis report

from the Kalina Forensic Laboratory which has revealed the presence of `ethyl alcohol’ in her body.“The level of alcohol is about 135 milligrams which means that she was in a state of high intoxication,” an officer said. This is corroborated by the fact that Pratyusha and Rahul had been partying till late the night before her death and the police have recovered bottles of alcohol from her house. They had possibly consumed alcohol the previous night and even on the morning of her death. Commenting on this development, a forensic expert said that if the alcohol level in the body of a person is more than 100 milligrams then it can lead to impaired judgment, loss of memory and slurred speech.‘‘The person can also go into a state of depression and can commit acts that are not done in the normal course of events,” the expert said. When queried, Inspector Deepak Phatangare of Bangur Nagar police station said that they are still piecing together the sequence of events prior to Pratyusha’s death. However, he declined to give details of the chemical analysis report.
