Prabhu takes a local for 2nd day in a row
Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said on Friday that his ministry is working towards giving Mumbai suburban railway commuters a comfortable travel experience and better passenger amenities. He also said the railway ministry is ready to invest Rs 40,000 crore to develop the city’s rail network and that the plan has been chalked out.
He said Central and the state government will collaborate to implement some of the big projects in the megapolis like elevated corridors between CST and Panvel, Churchgate-Virar elevated corridor project to be completed in two phases. "I held a meeting with the Chief Minister, chairman of Railway Board and other senior railway officials and we have chalked out a plan to invest over Rs 40,000 crore. The blueprint will be ready by August 15," Prabhu added.
The Railway Minister laid the foundation stone of a Foot Over Bridge at Khar Road railway station and further also inaugurated a new Foot Over Bridge at Vile Parle station.
He boarded a train at Khar road station after completion of the stone laying programme and travelled to Vile Parle.
Prabhu further said that the passenger rush in Mumbai suburban railway is increasing alarmingly. "I belong to this city. And not only me but all my colleagues know what needs to be done, so ample attention would also be given to Mumbai," the railway minister said.
