Peter’s bail: arguments continue

- STAFF REPORTER

The arguments over the bail of former media baron Peter Mukherjea who was arrested last year, for his alleged role in the murder of his step-daughter Sheena Bora, continued for the second day before the special CBI court on Friday. This is the second time that Mukherjea has applied for bail. On Friday, Abhad Ponda the counsel who appeared for Mukherjea, tendered a copy of the Call Data Records (CDR) of the phone calls exchanged between Indrani and Peter prior to the murder.

Since CBI in its charge sheet has mentioned that the former media baron had exchanged a number of calls prior to the murder, Ponda informed the court that these ‘several’ calls were made because Mukherjea was in Italy along with his other step daughter Vidhi and that time his wife Indrani was in India. He told the court that these calls were made for personal conversations and not for any murder ‘conspiracy’. He argued that the agency just wants to keep Mukherjea behind the bars for speaking to his family.

Ponda highlighted the number of calls exchanged between Indrani and city’s joint commissioner (law and order) Deven Bharti, along with Dr Yusuf Matcheswalla. He reiterated that if the agency has made him an accused based on the call records, then the doctor and the police officer should also be made accused since they too have exchanged a number of phone calls. However, after hearing his arguments the court has adjourned the case till April 25.
